Earthlings - Nothing
It's not that I'm running out of material for Song of the Week, but I was just looking through iTunes and found the track I originally wanted to feature when we looked at Palm Springs band Earthlings? a little while ago.
That post has all the details about who the band are, but I really wanted to share the song Nothing with anyone who is interested.
It's one to listen to loud on headphones if you have access to them. There is just so much going on in this song, with densely-layered guitar and keyboard tracks intertwining with Pete Stahl's laidback vocals. I also really love the bass sound in the outtro too.
It's an vivid song that evokes a clear impression of the landscape where it was recorded. And it's one that will hopefully grow on you if you give it a chance. Certainly if you like your music a little on the unconventional side, then the track Nothing will almost certainly appeal.
It's taken from the band's first full-length, self-titled album which you can find over at Amazon.

Love the intro. You right about the guitar and bass. Why can't the G-S's blend this well? Vocals very V underground.
I swear you hear something new every time you listen. Just before I realised that on the outtro the snare drum is faded out, so it's loud on every forth beat and fades for the other three. The song is in four-four right? I'll have check the serial numbers on my train ticket to confirm it.
The production is amazing on this record.
Pete Stahl has a great voice. Have you heard the doom band Goatsnake? It's hard to believe it's the same singer. Have a listen to this Goatsnake song.

That’s a variation on those emails I get on a regular basis from Africa asking me to contact them urgently regarding a “large amount of money” that is coming my way .
Here is a rare video of Earthlings playing, from memory, track three of the album 'Nothing' is from. Great song. Great video. Awesome desert. Enjoy 'Saving Up For My Spaceship'.
