Single Review: “Howlin’ Marilyn” by My Old Dutch

With a sound that lands somewhere between Eagles of Death Metal and Tumbleweed, Melbourne two-piece My Old Dutch serve up a sizzling slab of ’50s-style rock ‘n’ roll with their first single Howlin’ Marilyn.

It’s clear vocalist/guitarist Dave Gogerly (ex-Mushroom Giant and Blackseed) and drummer Kristian Popczyk (ex-Red Sky Burial and .hinge) haven’t set out to reinvent the wheel with this band, but are instead aiming to celebrate a time when rock was played fast and loose and with a bit of special sauce to make your hips swivel.

In this, Howlin’ Marilyn is a success, with Gogerly whipping up an impressive wall of chugging fuzz over Popczyk’s drums.

Complete with references to silver bullets, handclaps on the bridge, and obligatory feedback outro, Howlin’ Marilyn is good fun—definitely a band to watch.
