A civil jury today awarded $20,000 in compensatory damages in the case brought by Carol Anne Stingel, who accused the former ATSIC chairman of leading two pack rapes against her in Warrnambool in 1971.
When I was in Darwin in 2002, I was having a beer in a bar when Geoff Clark, flanked by 4 cronies walked in. About 5 minutes later he walked up, knocked the beer out of my mates hand then punched him in the jaw - felling him.
I said, "What the fuck was that for?"
Of which he replied, "He threw ice at me."
I said, "We are drinking beer fuckhead. And there is no one else here."
He said, "That's right. Get the fuck out of here. This is our bar tonight. Black fellas only."
I know from experience Clark is a thug and a bully (5 against 2) and now it is proven that he is a rapist. Not just a run-of-the-mill lone-wolf on a power trip, but a serial pack rapist.
In 2001 it was claimed that he was responsible for 4 rapes that occurred in 60s & 70s. In 2002 he was re-elected as the ATSIC chairman. In 2003 Victoria Police filed rape charges against him that were later dismissed. He lied about his whereabouts and used the same excuse for the current civil case except this time the jury didn't buy it.
Also in 2003, it emerged that ATSIC had agreed to fund Clark's legal defence relating to a pub brawl he had been involved in. A court dismissed 18 charges against Clark, however he was later convicted of obstructing police and public pressure forced ATSIC to revoke its offer.
Clark sold out his own people. He ran into the ground the only decent statutory body designed to help Indigenous Australians. While they were living and sleeping in their own shit, being maligned by Howard & Co, Clark was being paid $300,000 a year - bullying any challengers to his position who would not be part of his corruption.
He attempted to sell government property under the control of ATSIC and put the profits straight into his own pocket. Meanwhile, Indigenous Australians could not even get basic health care. Since he and ATSICS demise, Clark has been fairly quite when it comes to Indigenous issues.
What's a bet tomorrow he will say the justice system is racist. Fuck him. Cunt.

I wouldnt say racist, the word Wigger is certainly politically incorrect, but racist? hmmmm There is a fine line I think. Just like the Kramer and Mel Gibson incidents. Geoff Clark gave away his right to be treated in a politicaly correct manner when he commited pack rape, just as he took away the rights of Carol Anne Stingel.

I have never hear the word Wigger. But it sounds like a play on a racist term and well, therefore it is racist and maybe okay in the dark ages but not in the here and now.

When you call someone a 'wigger', you're deploying all the racism that was already in the term 'nigger' and adding another layer on top.
Understand, I'm not saying you're a racist -- that's why I used a question mark -- but any word that comes from compounding 'white' with 'nigger' is definitely racist.
Words and race (and gender and sexual orientation) can be tricky territory, and every now and then we all fall flat on our faces. I know when I was a kid, there was a common saying in NZ: something about a "nigger and a woodpile". I heard that said many times, and may have even repeated it, without realising that there was any racial overtone to it at all. Which seems unbelievable to me now -- but there ya go.
I know on this site we're prone to homophobic turns of phrase, accusing each other of being gay, or implying it at least. Like you say, it can be a fine line sometimes. I try not to go down that path, because I have a friend who's gay and I'd feel bad if he ever caught me using homophobia -- however frivolously -- to make fun of someone. Unfortunately, sometimes I resort to it anyway.
Doubtless this is one of the many reasons why I'm a low-rent piece of shit. Then again, most of my friends know that about me anyway. Which still doesn't make it right.

I too am always using the word gay or fag. My gay friends use fag to describe themselves and others so I use it too. But never in a mean way. For the generation(s) behind us the term 'gay' has changed again. If something does not work they say 'that is gay'.
Homophobic turns of phrase are really common. Most of the time there's no malice in it, like here on this site. I know that whenever the Baron and I start bagging each other it usually degenerates into that kinda stuff. So I'm hardly in a position to get holier than thou.

I do know that he used ATSIC money to buy quarter million dollar farms for his cronies, while respected Aboriginal elders camped in tin sheds (and it doesn't get much colder than a tin shed during a 'Bool July).
I was always amused by the Little Paper's report of the 2003 brawl (after the 'Bool Cup at the Criterion Hotel) where "a jug was thrown through a plate glass window, a condom vending machine was ripped from the wall and a hat illed with faesces was left in the female toilets."
